Thoughts on Christie’s keynote

Watching Christie’s keynote it occurred to me that choosing him to deliver this speech may have been a mistake. For one, it took 16 minutes for before he mentioned Mitt Romney’s name, which suggest this was a lot more about Christie and 2016 than Romney in 2012.

Perhaps more importantly, his theme of truth telling and hard choices and truth telling doesn’t work with the image most people have of Romney. Competent and a better steward of the economy than Obama? Maybe. A straight talker and someone who is willing to take on difficult issues, not so much.

Also I wonder if Romney’s campaign was happy with some of the language he used around seniors–”this generation isn’ t selfish”. That must not focus group very well.
